Hello everyone!

We are three Orks from Barcelona who participated on several Germans Larps (8 DF and 3 EE, one in the city and two at Norelag) and want to join the Ork Lag at EE, so we want to be sure that our characters are at the necessary level, so here we are.
Our idea it's to play Orks that came from the great south, with no great clan or master, who live in human territory and do what’s necessary to survive: kill, steal, and sometimes trade with goods (or slaves) with the few orks that we met, or non-orks with the same philosophy. After that, we heard about great clans on the north, so we come to join them. Because of the long time living among humans, we are unable to speak “Black speech”.
Also we want to use the cooking knowledge of one of our members to participate and win (we have already won the past 3 years) the cooking contest at EE with ork-style food (and maybe cook something for the rest of the lag )

Hey Fellas,

welcome to the muddy side of LARP.
I would like to give you a few information about us LOTR-orcs.

We are a community of seven groups with a harmonized background called "Grat u Murdur". This means: Every group is using the background and is about to fill this with life and detail. We have set races, religion, politics, military, ranks, etc wich have been worked out and written down by players of our groups. You could say, there is a whole culture been developed.
If you would like to use this background and play at our side inside this background, we would like you to first introduce yourselfs, your idea of playing the LOTR-background and your characters.
This gives us the opportunity to guide you through sticks and stones of our background. There are set boundaries inside this background but these give us a nice background where all of us are playing on a comitted set and without contradictions between single groups.
Also you will get the opportunity to get suggestions regarding your clothing and armour.

If you just start playing your characters as you wish to, you might run into tremendous differences and maybe against a wall. Some might say us Grat-urucs are crazy, maybe we are, but we all are crazy playing at 30°C with clothes all around and a mask on top.

@Tarburzakh: No its not lost, but in a other subforum. The last thread from the group was in the OHL-character-check subforum.
And now in this posting to the actual concept, I don't see the info to LOTR things anymore.
But perhaps they come with more informations and so on.

Hi again and thank you for the responses!

Our project is to play semi-savage Orks, every one of us from a different race but who bounded together to survive using our skills to steel and fight in order to survive. With this in mind, we designed our clothes (as you can see, much patched). We hope that this could fit in the OHL at Epic Empires and if not, any advice will be great!

Hi Khy'mhy,

I think the community can help with general informations to your clothings, if they have any ideas.
I can't see directly things which are not compatible with the orc-guide for the OHL.
But at least the OHL Main Orga will proof your Google doc registration form and will answer you if they see anything worthy for improvement.

The most of us don't use fully the Black Speech, even if they play LOTR orcs. So its no problem. We have in the OHL any groups with an own background for example the Jugporandor groups or the Azshag Ardai as a clan and on the other side we have any troups which play after the LOTR background. Tarburzakh wrote it before.

So you wrote you are half-savage. Do you use an own background and races?
What is your intention of playing an orc and not an human this year?

Hello everyone!

@Fauth/Glum: well, the story behind playing Orks this time it's that one of our members (Gorfang Rhanz) has been playing as an ork for many years and always wanted to play in an Ork camp. Also, the entire group went to EE some years and played with (and against jejeje) the Orks and we've been always amazed by their look... so, this year we decided to make a new step and try to join you.

We didn't set in an specific way what races are we (as a joke we said that we are the Goblin, the Hobgoblin and the Uruk). Our concept is that we are different types of Orks (so different races, different abilities, different ways to fight, etc.) that stayed together to survive. We will use our real culture from the south and, in some way, apply it to our Ork characters (for example, trading with traditional liquors).

We have been in touch with the Orga and we've already received tips, but anything more will be well received. We’re planning to make more clothes and thinks, so we will need advice.

I'm the one you mailed with!
There's two tips I forgot (or maybe 500 but one which came back to me):
1) Stitch your rags - leather or cloth - together with decorative stitching. Not the human kind: Take a thick thread in a contrast colour.
For example: Your rags are dark brown and black => beige or natural thread.

2) Layers! Layers, layers, layers!
You can make fake-layers, if you want to. Example: You got a leather tunic, with t-shirt-like-sleeves. Put some longer torn up linen sleeves in the leather tunic, which reach to the ellbow and another (different coloour/material) sleeve to the wrist, then wrap the forarms with cloth or leather.
In theory you could build the whole tunics - but it's not neccessary as long as it looks like they are there.
